What happens behind the scenes at Oxygen?
To prepare for an Oxygen event, some of the crew are on site from Thursday night, setting up the venue to give the right appearance for the individual theme of the weekend. During Friday and Saturday, we continue to prepare the venue for the events, but spend a lot of time bonding as a crew. Through teaching and activities during the day we aim to develop our own Christian lives as well. On Saturday morning, often the speaker for the weekend events will lead the crew in a time of relating to the theme of the weekend. After the event on the Saturday night, the crew stay behind clearing up and returning the venue to it’s original state.
Each event is organised by a Core team of crew members who discuss what should go into each event. Each Core team member is in charge of certain areas of the organisation, and as well as organising those areas, helps to ensure it runs smoothly on the night. Other crew members help out where and when they can.
Social Action
Social action is an activity that always happens at an Oxygen weekend. Crew members and anyone else who wants to goes out into the surrounding community of the venue to help in simple yet effective ways. This has ranged from food handouts, to car washes, in which we wish to bless people without them feeling like they have to give back.
Want to be in The Crew?
Most crew members come along from Friday morning till Saturday evening, and help out in a specific area, with guidance from more experienced crew members. Don’t feel like you have to come along for the whole weekend; if you can only be along for an afternoon, then that’s fine, just do what you can! At Oxygen we also encourage people to take part as well as help out; we don’t expect you to work for the entire two events! Additionally, we want to help people realise their potential, by helping them to discover and develop any gifts they may have within the setting of Oxygen.
